Thailand-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA)
The Thailand-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA) has been in effect since November 1, 2007. Under this agreement, 15 business sectors are liberalized and divided into two categories:
1. Businesses Requiring a Business Certificate
These businesses allow Japanese investors to hold more than 50% of the shares. There are 8 businesses in this category:
1.1) Retail trade (Schedule 3, Item 14)
1.2) Wholesale trade (Schedule 3, Item 15)
1.3) Advertising services (Schedule 3, Item 16)
1.4) Hotel services (Schedule 3, Item 17)
1.5) Food and beverage sales (Schedule 3, Item 19)
1.6) General management consulting services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
1.7) Logistics consulting services (excluding transport services) (Schedule 3, Item 21)
1.8) Maintenance and repair services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2. Businesses Not Requiring a Business Certificate
These businesses allow Japanese investors to hold less than 50% of the shares. There are 7 businesses in this category:
2.1) Marketing consulting services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2.2) Human resources management consulting services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2.3) Production management consulting services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2.4) Project management consulting services (excluding construction) (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2.5) Marina port services (private yachts and sailboats docking services, including maintenance and anchoring facilities) (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2.6) Computer services and related services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
2.7) Higher education services (Schedule 3, Item 21)
